The Christchurch Cancer Foundation believes that cancer sufferers in New Zealand have the right to world class levels of treatment and care.

About The Christchurch Cancer Foundation.

Almost half of all New Zealanders will get cancer within their lifetime. The number of cancer cases in New Zealand is expected to double by 2040.

At the same time, we are facing a growing global shortage of cancer professionals. Providing the education and having the facilities to attract the people our region needs is increasingly important.

The Christchurch Cancer Foundation believes that cancer sufferers in New Zealand have the right to world class levels of treatment and care.

Unfortunately, this is not the case. Without world class cancer-treatment infrastructure, New Zealand risks cancer outcomes falling further behind Australia and other comparable countries.

Through the generous support of our benefactors and donors, we manage a significant investment fund with the single purpose of attracting and supporting the best local and international people, to join the wonderful community of cancer professionals and institutions in Christchurch.

Our shared vision is that Christchurch will be the best place in New Zealand, and one of the best places in the world, for the diagnosis and treatment of cancer.

Funding The Christchurch Cancer Foundation

Every dollar is invested in perpetuity, providing essential funding to the cancer community indefinitely.

“New Zealand risks cancer outcomes falling further behind Australia and other comparable countries.”

Recruitment

The income from our investment fund assists in the recruitment of top cancer physicians to Canterbury through financial support of their research programmes. All donations to the fund are matched dollar for dollar up to $1 million per year until 2030, by a benefactor.

Collaboration

We are advocating for the development of a world-class, comprehensive cancer centre.  This institution will combine cancer treatment and care, with scientific leadership in laboratory and clinical research, integrated with training and education. At the centre, clinicians and research scientists will work together in a single complex, where cancers are analysed, and treatment strategies developed.
